Bighorn sheep rounded up in River Mountains
October 31, 2008 - 3:25 pm
Wildlife officials have completed a roundup of bighorn sheep in the River Mountains between Henderson and Boulder City.
The eight-hour operation netted 46 sheep, including roughly a dozen rams, from a growing herd that had begun to cause problems at a hillside park in Boulder City.
The animals were caught using nets fired from a helicopter, then flown to a staging area. There, a team of state wildlife personnel and volunteers checked over the sheep, administered inoculations and affixed a few of the animals with radio tracking collars.
The sheep are to be released into the Delamar Range in Lincoln County.
Additional sheep captures are planned in the Muddy and McCullough mountains in the coming days.
