Boy, 7, killed when motorcycle collides with car
A 7-year-old boy was killed after the motorcycle he was on crashed in a North Las Vegas neighborhood Wednesday evening.
The boy's 31-year-old father was operating the motorcycle in the 6100 block of Dawn View Lane, near Centennial Parkway and Clayton Street. His two sons were on the bike with him, North Las Vegas police Sgt. Tim Bedwell said.
His 8-year-old son was sitting in front of him, and his 7-year-old son was sitting behind him. The unidentified 7-year-old was wearing a plastic novelty helmet, Bedwell said. The father and the 8-year-old were not wearing helmets.
About 6:40 p.m. a Pontiac sedan that was parked on the curb attempted a U-turn and pulled in front of the motorcycle, Bedwell said. Investigators think the 19-year-old woman driving the car did not see the motorcycle.
The 7-year-old boy was thrown from the motorcycle and over the car. He was taken to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The 8-year-old boy was taken to UMC and is in good condition.
The father was not injured.
Police do not think alcohol was a factor in the crash, Bedwell said. Police could issue citations over failure to wear helmets or failure to yield to the motorcycle, he said.
The names of those involved were not available Wednesday night.
