CCSD board president joins district breakup committee

The Clark County School Board voted unanimously Thursday to appoint President Linda Young to a technical advisory committee that will help develop a plan to deconsolidate the Clark County School District.

Young asked fellow board members to nominate her for the appointment and criticized a suggestion from a teacher that the board instead appoint Superintendent Pat Skorkowsky.

"I would put my background against his," Young said, highlighting her past experience as a teacher in the district.

A bill passed in the recent legislative session charges the technical advisory committee with assisting a primary committee made up of state lawmakers who must study how best to split the district into an unspecified number of local precincts by the 2018-19 school year.
