Child’s death detailed

Five-year-old D'Amber Myles suffered from cerebral palsy, a debilitating brain disorder that left her with the intelligence of a child half her age.

She had limited use of one arm. To get around, she hopped on her knees; her wheelchair didn't work.

So when D'Amber was left alone in a filling bathtub, she had no way to get out.

The arrest report for 23-year-old Raven Gibbons states that her daughter was found June 30 face-down in the bathtub, the water overflowing into the hallway, at her apartment on Craig Road at Las Vegas Boulevard North.

Gibbons told police she placed the girl in the bathtub facing away from the shower head, which was left running when Gibbons closed the door and went to watch television in another room, according to the report.

She said she was gone for no longer than 10 minutes. When she returned, she found her daughter dead. Gibbons called 911 and a dispatcher helped her perform CPR.

When police recreated the scenario, they found the tub took 15 minutes to fill. It took 20 minutes for water to overflow into the hallway, as Gibbons had described, the report states.

She has been charged with second-degree murder and child neglect with substantial bodily harm.
