RENO -- Hundreds of Reno-area residents are doing their part to clean up or spruce up recreation sites along the Truckee River.
More than 600 people turned out for Saturday's annual Truckee River Cleanup Day, the Reno Gazette-Journal said.
Organizers set up cleanup or project sites at a dozen locations along the river, including parks and nature study areas. Projects included planting flowers, scrubbing away graffiti, pulling weeds and painting benches.
More than 400 bags of trash and 100 bags of recyclable goods were collected.
The annual event was founded more than 10 years ago by the Truckee River Yacht Club. In recent years, the effort has been coordinated by Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful and Nevada Econet.
