CEDAR CITY, Utah — Tre’Von Willis scored 16 points and led a second-half surge as UNLV pulled away to defeat Southern Utah 77-59 tonight at Centrum Arena.

Chace Stanback’s 3-pointer lifted the Rebels to a 31-30 halftime lead, and Willis took charge by scoring 11 points after halftime.

Willis made a 3-pointer, then came away with a steal and passed to Derrick Jasper for a dunk to put UNLV up 43-32. Oscar Bellfield’s 3 extended the Rebels’ run to 23-6 in the first eight minutes of the second half.

Stanback scored a team-high 10 points in the first half and finished with 15 for UNLV (8-1).

UNLV 31, Southern Utah 30 (halftime)

CEDAR CITY, Utah Chace Stanback’s 3-pointer in the final minute of the first half lifted UNLV to a 31-30 halftime lead over Southern Utah tonight at Centrum Arena.

Stanback, who scored 10 points to lead the Rebels, made a 3-pointer that tied the score at 24 with 2:44 left, and Tre’Von Willis’ steal and layup put UNLV (7-1) ahead.

The Thunderbirds (3-7) jumped up 8-2 and led for most of the half.
