Coroner identifies man killed in truck accident on Las Vegas Beltway

The Clark County coroner’s office identified the man who died in a vehicle fire Tuesday morning.

James Calvin Perkins, 64, of Las Vegas, died from acute carbon monoxide intoxication, inhalation of products of combustion and fire after the concrete mixer truck he was driving turned over on the Las Vegas Beltway near North Jones Boulevard about 9:50 a.m.

The vehicle was engulfed in flames after flipping over the temporary barrier rail about 400 yards west of Jones, trapping Perkins inside, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The freeway was closed in both directions for eight hours. Two tow trucks were used to move the fully loaded, 30-ton cement mixer.

The manner of death was ruled an accident.
