County commissioners consider codes governing reflexology establishments

Clark County Commissioner Mary Beth Scow has heard complaints from residents about reflexology establishments offering full body massages and advertising “personal services.”
Commissioners on Tuesday discussed putting reflexology establishments under the same county code requirements as massage establishments.
Under the proposal, reflexologists would need to be licensed by the Nevada Board of Massage Therapy within 18 months of the ordinance being put in place. Reflexologists currently are licensed as drugless practitioners.
Scow is joined in the effort by Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani. Giunchigliani said she has reached out to the state board and received support on that level.
Reflexologists apply pressure with their hands to various points on clients’ hands, feet and ears.
The potential change could put plenty of requirements on reflexology establishments. With limited exceptions, massage establishments can operate only from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. They must post the costs of services and meet minimum lighting standards.
Employees must wear nontransparent outer clothing, and tinted or two-way mirrors are not allowed .
