Dog dies in North Las Vegas fire that destroys home

A dog died in a North Las Vegas house fire Tuesday afternoon near Lake Mead Boulevard and Simmons Street.

Firefighters responded to a house in the 2200 block of Chipplegate Way about 12:30 p.m. and found heavy smoke coming from the garage of a single-story house, according to the North Las Vegas Fire Department.

The firefighters extinguished the fire within 30 minutes, but could not save the dog, according to the report. The homeowner was not home during the fire, and the house is considered a complete loss.

Damage is estimated at $180,000. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
