Finance official rejects Las Vegas, takes job in Texas
A public finance expert chosen to take a high-level role with the city of Las Vegas has decided to go to Fort Worth, Texas, instead.
The City Council was scheduled on Wednesday to approve Aaron J. Bovos to fill the finance director position vacated by Candace Falder, who retired in August.
But on Friday the city of Fort Worth announced it had hired Bovos as chief financial officer.
City spokesman David Riggleman said Bovos accepted the Las Vegas job on Nov. 26, prompting officials to schedule an item on the City Council agenda. On Thursday Bovos notified the city he was withdrawing his acceptance and declining the job.
Bovos was identified as the city’s choice for the opening after a national search and would have made $157,500 plus benefits, officials said.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported Bovos was offered $158,000 at the Texas job. Bovos was previously the chief financial officer and deputy county director in Gwinnett County, Ga.
Las Vegas officials said they’ll resume the effort to fill Falder’s former post.
