Free food market to be held by county on Saturday

County Commissioner Lawrence Weekly will host a free food market with Lutheran Social Services and Three Square at 9 a.m. today at the County Government Center.

“No one should go hungry in our community,” Weekly said in statement Thursday. “Hopefully this market will help some of those folks who most need a little help right now.”

Three Square plans to bring enough food for 12,500 meals, which is 7.5 tons of food including produce and bread.

The event is open to the public and free to attend. The market will be in the amphitheater at the Clark County Government Center, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway, from 9 a.m. until noon.

The food market is the commissioner’s Make A Difference Day project. Make A Difference Day is a national campaign to promote community service and volunteerism started by USA Weekend magazine in 1992.
