Funeral for slain courthouse security officer held today

The funeral procession for federal courthouse security officer Stanley Cooper made its way onto the grounds of the Central Christian Church this afternoon.

A flag draped casket rode in the rear of a Las Vegas Police truck, which followed dozens of police motorcycles in the motorcade.

Cooper, 72, was shot and killed Jan. 4 while working as a security guard at the Lloyd D. George Federal Courthouse in downtown Las Vegas. His killer, Johnny Lee Wicks, was himself killed in a shootout.

Cooper retired as a sergeant after 26 years with Las Vegas police. He began work with the U.S. Marshals Service in 1994.

He is survived by a brother, four sons, a daughter, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
