Good Samaritan wins honor

CARSON CITY -- A man who was shot in the leg after stopping to assist a motorist in Washoe Valley north of Carson City has been honored.

Wayne Nash, 51, of Carson City received the Nevada Department of Public Safety's first Civilian Medal of Valor on Friday in Carson City.

Nash stopped to help after seeing a car veer off U.S. 395 on Mother's Day. He found the body of 17-year-old Rene Angulo on the ground, then was shot by the driver of the fleeing car.

The driver, Victor Rodriguez, 24, has been charged with the murder of Angulo and the attempted murder of Nash.

Nash underwent three surgeries on the leg. Doctors originally feared they might have to amputate, but his recovery has gone well.
