GRIEF COUNSELORS ON HAND

Kingman student dies in rollover accident

Grief counselors were busy at Kingman High School in Arizona after one student was killed and another was critically injured in a single vehicle rollover early Tuesday. The girls, both 16, reside in Valle Vista, north of Kingman, and were driving to Kingman for a swim team practice.

The Department of Public Safety said the vehicle they occupied left Historic Route 66 about 4:55 a.m. about 11 miles north of Kingman. The vehicle went off the right side of the highway and crossed back over to the left side before striking a guard rail and rolling.

Officials said neither girl was wearing a seat belt and both were ejected. Dead at the scene was the driver, Allissa Marie Buchanan. The other teen, Raina Gentry, suffered severe injuries and was transported by air to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center in Las Vegas.

'HEAL THE WORLD'

Estate files lawsuit against foundation

Michael Jackson's estate has filed a federal lawsuit against a foundation that bears the name of one of his most famous songs, "Heal the World."

The lawsuit filed Tuesday in federal court in Los Angeles claims the Heal the World Foundation is improperly using trademarks and Web sites to create the impression they were approved by Jackson to solicit donations.

An after-hours phone message to the foundation was not immediately returned.

The suit claims Jackson created a charity based on his hit "Heal the World" in 1992, but it dissolved a decade later.

The current Heal the World Foundation was formed in 2008 and trademarked its name.

ONE-ACRE BLAZE

Lake Tahoe fire burns near casino district

A wildfire at Lake Tahoe was burning Tuesday on a mountain within about a half mile of the main casino district in downtown Stateline.

Fire crews responded to a one-acre blaze at about 10:25 a.m. in the tree line behind the casinos in the area of Upper Lake Parkway Drive.

Fire officials said no homes were immediately threatened, however strong winds appeared to be pushing the fire northeast toward the residential area of lower Kingsbury Grade.

Wind gusts up to 44 mph had been reported nearby at Edgewood Golf Course.
