VICTIM WOUNDED
Las Vegas man accused in shooting in Utah
A Las Vegas man has been arrested in a shooting that left a 45-year-old man paralyzed, the Garfield County sheriff's office in Utah said.
Jasson Hines, 24, was booked for investigation of 15 counts, including attempted murder and attempted kidnapping, in the Friday shooting of Tracy Armstrong at Panguitch Lake, according to the sheriff's office and court documents.
Hines and his girlfriend were joining a family reunion at the lake and were checking in with Armstrong, who owns the cabins in which the group was staying.
Armstrong was at the check-in desk when he was shot once in the neck and twice in the chest with a .38-caliber pistol, the sheriff's office said.
Hines and Armstrong had not met before, and the sheriff's office said the attack was unprovoked.
The sheriff's office said Hines' girlfriend took the gun and hid it from him before fleeing to a campground. The sheriff's office said he tried to abduct a child and steal a car before he was arrested.
Hines made an initial court appearance Thursday and was ordered to remain in jail.
