Car of missing dancer found; police search vehicle for clues

The car of a missing dancer was located by Las Vegas police Thursday night, and investigators are scouring it for clues into the 31-year-old's disappearance.

Las Vegas police would not say where the car was found. Spokesman Barbara Morgan said only that the vehicle was intact.

Deborah Flores-Narvaez was last seen leaving her home near Las Vegas Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue on Sunday about 7 p.m. Police were asking the public to search for her car, a maroon Chevrolet Prism with Maryland plates, until it was located Thursday.

Police are not saying whether a crime is suspected.

"We're concerned, obviously. We're very concerned," Morgan said.

Flores-Narvaez is a dancer in the show "Fantasy" at Luxor. She is described as a 5-feet-5-inch Hispanic weighing about 120 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts is encouraged to call the Metropolitan Police Department's missing persons detail at 828-2907.

Inmate killed in altercation with another inmate

An inmate was killed at High Desert State Prison about 7:30 p.m. Thursday night, the first inmate murder in five years for the state prisons system.

The man, whose name was not released, died during an altercation with another inmate, Nevada Department of Corrections spokeswoman Suzanne Pardee said. That inmate is in custody, but his name is not being released, Pardee said.

The Nevada Department of Public Safety is handling the investigation, with corrections investigators assisting, she said. No other information about the incident was released.

High Desert State Prison, near Indian Springs, is the largest state prison in Nevada. It opened in 2000 and recent construction is expected to increase its capacity to more than 4,100 beds.

Four-alarm fire damages historic Provo Tabernacle

Firefighters battled a four-alarm blaze Friday at the historic Provo Tabernacle in Utah.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, but it is believed to have started in an upper level of the building. Investigators probably won't be able to enter the building until today.

The fire collapsed the roof of the gabled landmark. Fire Marshal Lynn Schofield said there is structural damage to walls, peaks and gables of the building.

The building has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1975. It was constructed between 1883 to 1898 at a cost of $100,000. It served as a church meeting house, but is now used for joint meetings of multiple Mormon congregations and cultural events.

Tabernacles are larger than regular church meeting houses, a church website states.

The Provo structure has octagonal towers at each of its four corners and originally had a central tower that rose 147 feet, according to a description on the National Register's website.
