Inmate dies at Northern Nevada prison medical facility

A 47-year-old Northern Nevada Correctional Center inmate died Wednesday, according to a release by the Nevada Department of Corrections.

Jeffrey McKenna was housed at the detention center’s Regional Medical Facility. He was transported to the hospital after medical staff called 9-1-1. He had been hospitalized numerous times before, officials said.

McKenna was serving eight to 20 years under the habitual criminal statues for a Washoe County burglary. He had been incarcerated in Nevada since 2011.

An autopsy will be conducted by the Carson County Coroner’s office.
