Isolated and scattered thunderstorms possible threat to Fourth of July fireworks

Firework shows will be igniting the skies all over Las Vegas Valley tonight, but booming lights might already be in effect before the shows start.

A hazardous weather outlook will affect Southern Nevada this afternoon and tonight as monsoon moisture hovers overhead, according to the National Weather Service.

"Isolated to scattered thunderstorms with heavy rain will occur," the weather service reported.

Flash flooding is possible.

The moisture will remain Tuesday through Sunday across the Southern Great Basin and Mojave Desert as thunderstorms will likely continue in the afternoons and evenings. Flash flooding will remain a "concern," reported the weather service.

The weather service advises drivers to not cross flooded roads.

"Turn around, don't drown," warned the weather service.

Clark County firefighters had to deal with the results of heavy thunderstorms on Sunday night, when they rescued two men from different Las Vegas channels after a deluge swept across the valley.

About 7:15 p.m., a man in his 60s was pulled from a wash behind Fire Station No. 18 on Flamingo Road near Terrible's hotel-casino. Firefighters extended a ladder from their truck into the 4-foot-deep channel and rescued the man, who was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

A half hour later, crews responded to a call about a man stuck in a flood control channel near Flamingo Road and Swenson Street. Again, firefighters used a ladder from the truck and to extend a flotation device to the man, who was in his 30s. Crews were able to hoist him to safety. The man refused medical treatment.
