Kingman man sentenced in death of baby left in hot vehicle

A young Kingman, Ariz., man was sentenced Tuesday to six months in jail in the death of his baby girl, who died after being left in an unattended vehicle on a hot day.

It was the most jail time possible under terms of a plea agreement convicting 22-year-old George Lyman of negligent homicide in the September 2010 death.

Serenity Lyman, 10 months old, died of heat exposure after being left for five hours in the vehicle on a 102-degree day.

Prosecutor Victoria Stazio said Lyman was criminally liable though his daughter's death was an accident.

Stazio said Lyman forgot his daughter was in the back seat when he parked at home after working a night shift at a grocery store. She said he ate, watched television and slept a bit before remembering Serenity was still in the vehicle.

Mohave County Superior Court Judge Derek Carlisle ordered Lyman to perform 250 hours of community service while serving four years of probation after his jail sentence is completed.
