Las Vegas police search for ‘Scarf-Face Robber’

Las Vegas police are searching for a suspect who they've dubbed the "Scarf-Face Robber" in more than a dozen robberies he has committed since late December.

The suspect, who wears a scarf over his face, is described as black, between 20 and 30 years old, about 5-feet-10 inches tall and about 180 pounds.

Police said the suspect targets businesses largely in the east and northeast valley. He is considered armed and dangerous, and he has come away with money in 14 robberies.

Police believe the first robbery occurred Dec. 19. In addition to the scarf he wears over his face, he dons a black, hooded jacket or a white-and-blue hooded Los Angeles Dodgers jacket.

Lt. Clint Nichols said some of the target businesses include Green Valley Grocery, Cirkle K and MetroPCS.

"The most he got out of any robbery was $800," Nichols said.

Nichols added witnesses have told police the suspect appears to be a acting alone. "He may have somebody as a getaway driver, but we can't confirm that."

Police suspect the bandit was behind Monday's 3:10 a.m. robbery of a business near Pecos Road and Washington Avenue.

In that robbery, the assailant jumped the counter, produced a gun and demanded money.

The suspect did have one unsuccessful attempt, police said. Nichols said that on Thursday he attempted to rob a Sprint store on the 7300 block of South Rainbow Boulevard.

In that attempt, an employee pulled out a gun and fired at the suspect, who got away with nothing. Police believe he was unharmed.

Anyone with information pertaining to the whereabouts of the suspect is asked to call Las Vegas police's Robbery Section at 828-3591 or Crime Stoppers at 385-5555.
