Las Vegas singer faces child support charges in Massachusetts

A singer who had a chart-topping love song in 1990 is due in a Massachusetts court on charges of owing $420,000 in unpaid child support, authorities said.

Springfield police said they arrested 53-year-old Steven Bernard Hill of Las Vegas on Friday night at the MassMutual Center, where he was performing on tour.

Hill, who performs as Stevie B, is best known for the song, "Because I Love You (The Postman Song)," which reached No. 1 on the Billboard charts in late 1990.

The Springfield Republican reported the woman to whom he owes child support lives in Feeding Hills, Mass.

Hill was scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Springfield, Mass., District Court. He could not immediately be reached Sunday for comment and police did not know if he had an attorney.
