Pregnant woman, unborn baby critically injured near Strip

A 27-year-old pregnant woman and her unborn baby were critically injured after being struck by a car near the Strip on Friday night.

The collision caused her to give birth about three months early, according to Las Vegas police.

A 2014 Ford Focus, driven by a 24-year-old man, was traveling east on Circus Circus Drive, west of Las Vegas Boulevard South, about 9:50 p.m. when it hit the woman, who was walking across the eastbound lanes outside of a marked crosswalk, police said.

The woman, who was six months pregnant, was forced to the ground.

She was taken to University Medical Center where the baby was was born early.

The driver, who was not injured, remained at the scene, police said.

The incident was still under investigation Saturday afternoon.
