Lawn mower exchange revving up

Clark County air quality officials will kick off this year's gasoline-powered lawn mower exchange program Saturday during the Jazz in the Park Clean Air Festival at the county government center.

Residents who want to help clean up the air by trading in gasoline-powered mowers for vouchers to obtain environmentally friendly electric mowers can do so between 5 and 8 p.m. at the Clark County Government Center, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway.

One electric lawn mower will be raffled off during the festival, said Brenda Williams, spokeswoman for the Clark County Department of Air Quality and Environmental Management.

This is the third year for the lawn mower swap program. In all, more than 2,500 mowers have been exchanged, and program officials expect at least 500 gasoline mowers will be traded in for electric ones this year.

Paperwork required for participating in the program can be obtained from the county government center or from Henderson's Community Development Department on the first floor of Henderson City Hall, 240 Water St. A Nevada driver's license or Nevada identification card is required to participate.

Participants pay $99 for a new electric mower.

"You get a voucher and take that to a recycler and get the last information sheet to obtain the mower from Neuton, the electric lawn mower company," Williams said Monday.

The application, voucher and gasoline-powered mower must be delivered to AAEQ Manufacturers. More recycle information is available at the website, www.accessclarkcounty.com.

Qualified participants then should call Neuton, 1-800-982-4358, to pay $99 for a new mower and schedule delivery.

Participants must be residents of Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson, Boulder City or unincorporated areas of Clark County within the Las Vegas Valley.
