Machida knocks out Silva in first round

Thiago Silva and Lyoto Machida come into this light heavyweight battle with identical 13-0 records.

FIRST ROUND: Machida gets in a good leg kick and then about 30 seconds later a timeout is called at 3:52 after he places a right knee into Silva’s groin.

Machida takes down Silva, but not for long. They’re both up and dancing.

Machida with a big left cross to the chin that puts Silva to the mat with about three minutes left. After 30 seconds, Machida gets up but Silva remains on his back prepared to fend off Machida with his feet and legs.

Machida lets him up with 1:40 left.

Machida gets Silva down with a leg trip. Machida gets up and Silva stays on his back waiting to escape. This time Machida attacks with a big right cross that knocks out Silva. Machida gets in one more shot before the referee stops it at 4:59.

Finally, a fight that doesn’t end with a decision.

Neither will the next one.
