Man identified in incident when officer fired weapon

A man involved in a Saturday domestic violence incident that ended with a Las Vegas police officer firing his weapon has been identified as 23-year-old Tracy Lee Denson.

Police responded to the 2100 block of Las Verdes Street, near Sahara Avenue and Valley View Boulevard, about 3 p.m. Saturday to what was believed at the time to be a kidnapping. Citizens had reported two men attempting to force a woman into a green Jeep.

Officers aboard a police helicopter saw a man beating a female outside the Jeep, police said. As a police patrol unit arrived, the victim was able to escape and flee on foot to a safe location, police said.

The two men were inside the vehicle when an officer ordered them to put up their hands.

One man did not comply and made a quick movement toward the floor of the vehicle before quickly raising his hands, police said. An officer fired one shot from his handgun when the suspect moved, but didn't hit anyone.

Both men were taken into custody. The names of the victim and the other man involved in the incident were not released.

Denson was booked on charges of battery and domestic violence.

The officer was placed on paid administrative leave. His identity will be released 48 hours after the incident per department policy.
