Man killed in drunken-driving crash
One driver was dead and another was jailed after a Friday morning drunken driving crash on the Las Vegas Beltway.
The crash happened about 7 a.m. in the northbound lanes of the Beltway near Charleston Boulevard when a speeding black BMW sedan rear-ended a green Toyota sedan, Nevada Highway Patrol Sgt. Michael Nihei said.
After the collision, the Toyota veered into the median and rolled.
The driver, Luis Gabriel Jaimes Chanona, 25, of Las Vegas, was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the car and landed in the southbound lanes. He died at the scene.
The BMW continued north and stopped only when the car broke down, Nihei said.
Troopers arrested the driver of that car, 23-year-old Merced Tarango, on charges of felony hit and run, driving under the influence, reckless driving and involuntary manslaughter.
He was being held at the Clark County Detention Center on $9,000 bail.
