Man’s death prompts murder charges

An 82-year-old man who died Monday after being beaten at home in a July robbery attempt was identified in a Henderson police report as Wesley Roberts.

One man and two teenage girls are charged with murder in connection with Roberts' death. Investigators on Monday were trying to locate two other men suspected of being involved in the crime.

Roberts was attacked in his home on Cervantes Drive, near Sunset Road and Valle Verde Drive, Henderson police spokesman Keith Paul said. The incident occurred about 6:45 p.m. on July 24.

Mickey M. Thomas, 26, who was already in custody at the Henderson Detention Center, was booked Monday on murder charges.

At the time of the beating, two teenage girls also were in the home. They were identified in the police report as Alexis Patterson, 15, and Shaniece Holder, 16.

Holder initially told police a man broke into Roberts' house and beat him while she was there. She hid in the bathtub near the master bedroom while Patterson hid in the shower. Holder told police she did not get a look at the assailant, the report said.

Holder later changed her story and told police Thomas broke into the house and beat Roberts. She said she initially didn't tell police that because she was afraid of Thomas. She said she and Thomas had casual sexual encounters in the past, the report said.

The two teenagers described Roberts as a friend, the report said. Police found photos of naked women at Roberts' residence, one of whom appeared to be a family member of one of the girls under arrest, the report said.

Patterson and Holder are being held in the Clark County juvenile detention facility.

Paul said he did not know whether the teenagers would be charged as adults or whether additional charges would be sought.

Police said several items were stolen from the victim's home.
