Bergdahl formally charged with desertion, could face life in prison

U.S. Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl, a former war prisoner in Afghanistan, was formally charged on Wednesday with desertion and misbehavior before the enemy and faces the possibility of life in prison if convicted on the misbehavior count, a U.S. Army spokesman said.

Bergdahl’s hearing was set for April 22 in San Antonio, his attorney said. The Army Forces Command at Fort Bragg in North Carolina said earlier on Wednesday that it would provide an update on Bergdahl’s case.
