Molestation suspect charged with intimidation attempt

A 57-year-old Pahrump man accused of molesting 10 children faces additional charges after Nye County Sheriff's Department officials believe he tried to intimidate and bribe the mother of an alleged victim to prevent her child from showing up in court to testify against him.

Samuel Vernon Hamett was rearrested Thursday night and charged with bribing or intimidating a witness and trying to prevent a witness to testify, according to the Sheriff's Department.

The charges come days after Hamett was arrested on 10 counts each of lewdness with a child under 14, sexual assault with a child under 14, child abuse and exploitation of a child and open and gross lewdness.

Hamett is being held on $10,000 bail as well as the $250,000 bail from the charges from his arrest Sunday.

Hamett's alleged victims range in age from toddlers to teens up to 14.
