Mother, six children stung multiple times after uncovering bee hive

A family is recovering after a weekend bee attack near Nellis Air Force Base.

Clark County firefighters responded to a call about 4 p.m. Sunday and found a mother and six children with multiple bee stings. The father wasn't harmed, but the victims included children as young as 18 months old, authorities said.

The children opened a sprinkler box with an active bee hive inside, firefighters said. One family member was stung more than a dozen times, although nobody was taken to the hospital, crews said.

Firefighters say they put on protective bee suits and sprayed the hive with foam to smother the insects, then asked the property managers to have an exterminator get rid of any remaining bees.
