Drunken French teens abduct circus llama for train ride

A circus llama has been returned safely after a group of drunken French teenagers abducted the animal and took it for a ride on Bordeaux’s tram system.

The group of five said they took the llama from a closed-down circus on Thursday after a night out. They originally wanted a zebra, according to the International Business Times, but had a difficult time stealing the animal. They decided to take the llama for a ride on the city’s tram system.

“He hopped on without a problem. We followed suit and took a ride with him,” one of the men, called Matthieu, said. “There were other passengers.”

The group was caught when passengers on the tram reported the llama, named Serge, to a ticket inspector.

“He moved along the tram and we couldn’t hold onto him,” Mathieu said, according to the Independent. “The inspector made him get off and tied him to a lamppost.”

After the story of the group’s actions went viral on social media, a Facebook page was set up requesting clemency for the teens. The page had more than 750,000 “likes” as of Monday morning.

The llama was returned to the circus and is doing well. French media reported the director of the circus has withdrawn his complaint against the teens, according to BuzzFeed.
