Georgia mom charged after dead newborn son found in freezer

MARIETTA, Ga. — A Georgia woman is in jail after putting the body of her newborn son in a freezer. Results of an autopsy to determine whether the boy was born alive are pending.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution cites a Cobb County police arrest warrant that says 45-year-old Carol June Sautter gave birth to the full-term baby in June, but the boy did not survive. The Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office said Wednesday that the autopsy results are not complete.

Sautter’s warrant says she didn’t notify authorities of the death, but sent text messages to multiple people including photos of the newborn showing part of his umbilical cord attached. She’s being held without bond on a charge of concealing a death as the investigation continues. It’s unclear whether she has a lawyer.
