No charges for Chicago Uber driver who shot gunman

Authorities say no charges will be filed after a driver with ridesharing company Uber shot a man who opened fire on a crowd in Chicago.

According to Chicago Tribune, a group of people were walking in front of the driver about midnight Friday when 22-year-old Everardo Custodio began firing into the crowd.

The 47-year-old driver, who had a concealed-carry permit, fired six shots at Custodio, hitting him several times, according to court documents. No other injuries were reported.

Custodio was treated at a nearby hospital for gunshot wounds to his lower back, thigh and shin. He was charged with aggravated assault and unlawful use of weapon charges.

The driver acted in defense of himself and others, Assistant State’s Attorney Barry Quinn said in court.
