Texas 4-year-old dies after treehouse collapses on him

HOUSTON — A 4-year-old Houston-area boy has died of head injuries after a treehouse collapsed and fell on him.

Authorities say Kade Contreras, of Cleveland, was hurt Christmas Eve at a relative’s home in nearby Splendora, about 35 miles (56.32 kilometers) northeast of Houston.

A family spokesman, Rex Evans, police chief in the Cleveland Independent School District, says the boy died Wednesday at a Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston where he’d been on life support. Evans says tests showed he had no brain activity.

The child was the youngest of four boys in the family, had recently turned 4 and Evans says had been “looking forward to Christmas.”
