New public lands center in Utah named for Reid

SALT LAKE CITY — Southern Utah University is naming a new center that will study public lands for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada.

The Deseret News of Salt Lake City reported the center will be dedicated Thursday, when the Democratic senator is speaking at the university in Cedar City where Reid graduated in 1959.

Jon McNaughton, associate director of SUU’s Center for Politics and Public Service, said the center will incorporate elements of several existing programs. Students will be able to do research or internships tied to public lands.
