North Las Vegas standoff ends with woman in police custody

A 52-year-old woman who barricaded herself in a home on the 3500 block of Coleman Street this morning is in police custody after a long standoff with North Las Vegas police.

Police said she fired shots out of the home early Friday. The standoff followed reports of a hostage situation involving a 10-year-old boy around 6:50 a.m. at the home near Gowan Road, North Las Vegas police spokeswoman Chrissie Coon said.

The boy was released but the woman remained inside the home until about noon.

Police blocked Gowan and Coleman for several blocks in each direction as the standoff stretched through the morning hours.

Coon did not say who made the original call to police.
