One killed and one injured in valley shooting

One person died and another was critically injured Thursday in a shooting in the northwest valley.

A family member called Las Vegas police about 5:30 p.m. and reported that two people had gunshot wounds in a home on the 6800 block of Elm Creek Drive, near Rainbow Boulevard and Gowan Road.

Officers found a man and a woman suffering from gunshot wounds. They were taken to University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. One of them later died. One of the two might have suffered from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, department spokesman Bill Cassell said.

Homicide detectives are investigating the case.

The ages and names of the victims were not released. A motive for the shooting has not yet been established, Cassell said.
