Owner of popular eatery frequented by lawyers pleads guilty to burglary charge
Hans Aareskjold is well known to the courthouse set as the owner of the popular Strip Sandwich Shop at Las Vegas Boulevard and Bonneville Avenue.
It turns out that Aareskjold is also well known to the other side of the law.
Aareskjold, 42, pleaded guilty to a felony burglary charge on Monday for allegedly stealing small items of merchandise from a local Home Depot in November 2009.
The plea is part of an agreement with the district attorney's office, which will make no recommendation at his March 29 sentencing. He faces 1 to 10 years in prison and a maximum $10,000 fine, but is also eligible for probation.
The deal also calls for Aareskjold to plead guilty in a couple of weeks to a second burglary charge stemming from thefts last month at a Wal-Mart.
Both Aareskjold and his lawyer, Osvaldo Fumo, declined comment after Monday's plea.
The Strip Sandwich Shop is known as a lunchtime hangout for lawyers and a popular caterer at downtown law firms and courthouses.
Earlier this month, District Attorney David Roger sent out an email alerting his staff to "use discretion" when patronizing the sandwich shop.
Roger also instructed the staff not to allow Aareskjold or his employees access to any internal areas of the DA’s office when they’re delivering food at the Regional Justice Center
