Police: Suspect wanted in child sex assault was known to family

The man sought by police in connection with the sexual assault of a child under 14 was no stranger to the family.

Guadalupe “Lupe” Barrales, 32, has been named as a suspect in an Oct. 17 sexual assault near Commerce Street and Carey Avenue, North Las Vegas police said.

“He was a trusted person known to the family,” North Las Vegas police spokesman Tim Bedwell said. “He had access to the home. He spent a lot of time there.”

Police said the child was assaulted while at home.

Barrales is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall with black hair and brown eyes. Police said he has a prominent scar across the left side of his forehead.

Barrales has no known address but works as a dishwasher at a business near Alta Drive and Rampart Boulevard, police said. He drives a white 1997 Nissan pickup with a Nevada license plate, 065VVJ.

Anyone with information regarding the case or the whereabouts of Barrales is urged to call the North Las Vegas Police Department at 702-633-9111. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 or online at www.crimestoppersofnv.com.
