Ramsey victory makes her first female North Las Vegas Municipal Court judge

Catherine Ramsey will be the first female Municipal Court judge in North Las Vegas.

Ramsey, 46, solidly defeated Marsha Kimble-Simms, 50, in Tuesday's general election for the Department 1 seat.

Ramsey won 58 percent of the vote while Kimble-Simms got 42 percent.

Ramsey, who could not be reached for comment late Tuesday, is a North Las Vegas deputy city attorney in the criminal division who has worked for the city since 2007. Previously, she worked in private practice and as a deputy district attorney for Clark County.

Ramsey, a graduate of Boyd Law School at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, was licensed to practice law in Nevada in 2002. She succeeds Judge Warren VanLandschoot, who is retiring. He was elected to the seat in 1997.

The city's municipal judges serve six-year terms and earn $148,438 a year.
