Remains of missing Canadian found near Nevada-Idaho line
ELKO - Hunters have discovered the remains of a 59-year-old Canadian man missing in the wilderness near the Nevada-Idaho line since he and his wife got stranded a year and a half ago.
Albert Chretien's wife, Rita, was rescued in May, 2011, after surviving 48 days in their vehicle. Albert had set out on foot for help three days after they got stuck on March 22, 2011 and hadn't been seen since.
The Elko Daily Free Press reported Monday Rodney Thompson and Jay Doke found Chretien's remains Saturday in a heavily wooded part of Merritt Mountain in Elko County. They contacted sheriff's deputies, who followed them there Sunday and used items in a pocket to identify him.
A public memorial was held for Chretien in April in his hometown of Penticton, B.C.
