During the coroner's inquest into the death of Erik Scott, police officer William Mosher was asked if it is common for a police officer to pull a weapon hundreds of times in five years.

"In Las Vegas, yes," Mosher replied.

"As a native Las Vegan," Justice of the Peace Tony Abbatangelo said wryly, "that makes me feel good."

Superintendent finalist Michael Hinojosa's folksy sense of humor came out during his interview with the Clark County School Board.

When discussing different types of school management, Hinojosa described the New York City style as "git'r done. They don't talk like that in New York, but that's what they do."

As passengers boarded a Southwest Airlines flight in Oakland on Monday, two men noticed that a male companion, who already had checked in for the flight, was missing.

A flight attendent paged the man moments before the flight was to take off for Las Vegas, but he was nowhere to be found.

"If I were capable of caring, I'd be worried about him," one of the man's traveling companions said to the other.

When the flight landed in Las Vegas, the men received a voicemail message from the missing traveler. He had gone to the wrong gate.

At the dedication of a new federal detention center in Pahrump, Nye County Commission Chairman Gary Hollis offered county employees a complimentary one-week stay at the facility.

"The meals are free, and they're good," he said.

Before Paris Hilton entered Las Vegas Justice Court Monday to plead guilty to drug possession and obstruction charges, a swarm of media photographers and videographers staked out spots in the court.

At the sight of the throng of paparrazi, a local defense attorney, who was in court on a case not involving a hotel heiress, quipped, "I'm glad I took a shower today."
