Rocker arrested on DUI charge
"You can't change me," Vince Neil sang on his 1993 solo album single.
Las Vegas police are investigating whether that's the case.
The Motley Crue frontman, who recently said in interviews that he had stopped abusing drugs and alcohol, was arrested in Las Vegas late Sunday on suspicion of drunken driving. Neil was driving a Lamborghini sports car when he was pulled over by police.
The arrest came more than 25 years after he was charged with DUI and vehicular manslaughter in a Los Angeles car crash.
Neil, 49, was arrested about 11:15 p.m. on Desert Inn Road, near Las Vegas Boulevard. He was booked at the Clark County Detention Center on $2,000 bail, jail records show. He was released Monday after posting bail.
Attorney David Chesnoff, who is representing Neil, told The Associated Press on Monday that it was "premature" to respond to the charges and promised a response in court. Neil is set to appear in court Sept. 27.
Las Vegas police spokesman Bill Cassell said police also are investigating Neil in connection with an incident involving a fan outside the Las Vegas Hilton. The fan claims her camera was broken.
A publicist for Neil did not immediately respond to inquiries.
In December 1984, Neil was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and vehicular manslaughter after hitting an oncoming vehicle while returning to his house in Redondo Beach, Calif., after a trip to a liquor store.
The collision resulted in the death of Nicholas "Razzle" Dingley, drummer for Finnish rockers Hanoi Rocks.
Neil pleaded guilty to the manslaughter and drunken driving charges and was sentenced to 20 days in jail and ordered to pay $2.5 million in restitution, according to The Associated Press.
In recent years Neil, who moved here in the mid-1990s, has established a growing presence in Las Vegas. He recently celebrated the grand opening of his Tres Rios Cantina at the Las Vegas Hilton. The restaurant is named after his line of tequila.
Neil's other Las Vegas ventures are Feelgoods Rock Bar and Grill on Sahara Avenue, a charter airline service that flies out of McCarran International Airport's Signature Terminal, and a pair of tattoo shops, Vince Neil Ink, in the Rio and O'Sheas casinos.
"I've stuck to things that I enjoy," Neil recently told the Review-Journal.
Neil also is a busy performer, with a solo show scheduled for Thursday at The Palms Pool and Bungalows and tour dates with Motley Crue this summer. He recently released the solo album "Tattoos and Tequila" and plans to release an autobiography of the same name in September.
