Scooter rider killed in accident in northwest Las Vegas

A crash on the northwest side of the Las Vegas Valley left a 19-year-old man riding a scooter dead on Saturday.

The intersection of Cheyenne Avenue and Fort Apache Road was closed after Las Vegas police responded to the crash just before noon.

A man riding a 2013 scooter, originally reported as a motorcycle by police, was turning onto Cheyenne when he hit the median and was struck by a 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse, dying on the scene.

The man’s identity will be released by the Clark County coroner’s office after his family has been notified.

It was the 16th traffic related fatality in Las Vegas police jurisdiction in 2014. It was still under investigation Saturday night.
