Singer gets spot on Aguilera team
September 15, 2012 - 1:08 am
Rising star Lisa Scinta of the Las Vegas musical family The Scintas shined on the big stage on Thursday.
Scinta's rendition of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream" during NBC's "The Voice" got the attention of judge Christina Aguilera, who added Scinta to Team Xtina.
Scinta, at 25 already a top writer for Universal Records, is the daughter of Joe Scinta, a member of the Buffalo, N.Y., group that relocated to Las Vegas about 12 years ago.
She moved to Los Angeles in February to work with Universal.
Her family over the years has told the story that she spent hours in a bathroom with a keyboard, working on songs.
Her dedication paid off. She got noticed when the songs she posted on YouTube.com made her an Internet sensation, with more than 20 million hits.
HAYES OUT AT FOX 5
KVVU-TV, Channel 5, morning anchor Heidi Hayes, the last original member of the station's move to news in 1998, is out.
News director Adam Bradshaw confirmed Hayes' departure and the move to a new morning news team of Stefanie Jay and John Dabkovich, starting Oct. 15.
Hayes' last day will be Oct. 5, Bradshaw said.
Hayes, a Las Vegas native, said Friday she was "disappointed and pretty much blindsided. It makes no sense."
After starting on the assignment in 1998, she was a reporter for five years before joining her husband-to-be, weatherman Ted Pretty on the anchor desk from 4:30 to 7 a.m.
Jay's first day will be Oct. 8, with Dabkovich joining her a week later from Bakersfield's BKAK-TV, where he was a morning anchor.
Jay was suspended as weekend anchor about two years ago after a DUI arrest. Bradshaw said she returned to the anchor job after the initial charge was pleaded down to reckless driving.
"We did not, and our corporation (Meredith) did not, feel termination was the right punishment," he said.
DAVIDOVICI SUES
Former Las Vegas nightclub king Steve Davidovici and his wife filed a lawsuit this week seeking payment of a $700,000 loan to the partners of Chateau nightclub at Paris Las Vegas.
Named as defendants in the lawsuit, which was filed in District Court: Corey Jenkins, Perry Rogers, Roland Sturm and Chateau nightclub.
Davidovici and his wife, Charissa, loaned the defendants $700,000 via a promissory note more than a year ago, according to the lawsuit. When Chateau opened in March 2011, Steve Davidovici was one of the managing partners. He left the group about three months ago, when he was facing a prison sentence for tax evasion during his management of Pure nightclub at Caesars Palace.
Rogers was Andre Agassi's longtime business manager before their acrimonious split three years ago. Rogers has represented Shaquille O'Neal and other prominent sports figures.
Sturm is a local shopping center builder and handled the construction of Chateau.
THE PUNCHLINE
"A new poll claims that
58 percent of Americans believe Barack Obama would beat Mitt Romney in a fistfight. I didn't realize that was an option. Maybe we can wrap this election up tonight. Make it a pay-per-view event. We could wipe out the national debt in one night." - Jimmy Fallon
