Six hurt in multivehicle crash on U.S. 95, southbound lanes closed at Jones

An accident involving several vehicles has ensnared traffic on the southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 95 near Valley View Boulevard tonight. The highway is closed at Jones Boulevard and is not expected to reopen for at least one to two hours, according to officials.

Six people have been taken to University Medical Center with moderate injuries, according to the Las Vegas Fire Department. None of the injuries are expected to be life-threatening.

The accident might have been caused after an ambulance stopped to assist a motorist stranded in a travel lane, according to a preliminary investigation, Nevada Highway Patrol trooper Joseph Fackrell said. The ambulance was one of the several vehicles involved in the accident, he said.

Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area.
