Smith’s announces beef recall

Smith’s Food and Drug Stores announced today the recall of select beef products supplied by JBS Swift Beef Co. because of possible E. coli contamination. Some 40 stores in Nevada are included in the recall.

Customers are asked to check home freezers for store-brand and store-packaged beef products with sell-by dates from May 5-24 including petite cut ball-tip steak, 85/15 lean ground beef, ground beef not to exceed 15 percent fat, cube steak, beef for stew, beef for fondue, beef fajita meat and beef for stir fry. The beef is in foam-tray packages wrapped in cellophane, and purchased at in-store fresh-meat cases.

Return such products to the store for a refund or replacement.
