Suspect arrested in Pahrump in Las Vegas slaying

Nye County sheriff's deputies in Pahrump Tuesday arrested a man who was wanted for murder in Las Vegas.

According to the sheriff's office, Billy Pattillo, 28, was arrested after Deputy Harry Williams attempted to pull over the Ford Mustang he was driving near Corbin Street. Pattillo ran and was eventually captured by Williams. The Mustang was reported stolen in Las Vegas, unrelated to the homicide case, police said.

Pattillo was wanted by police after the April 1 shooting of 50-year-old Dale Colwell, Las Vegas police Lt. George Castro said.

The sheriff's office had been working with the Metropolitan Police Department since late April to locate Pattillo, he said.

Castro, who heads the department's Violent Crimes Section, said the shooting happened at 5113 Carey Ave., near Nellis Air Force Base in the eastern part of the valley. The men had been arguing "over money being owed," he said. Colwell died the following day.

Pattillo was transported to Las Vegas and booked at Clark County Detention Center on charges of murder with a deadly weapon and battery involving domestic violence.

Veronica Woods, 21, was also arrested by sheriff's deputies in connection with the case. She was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and harboring a fugitive, police said.
