Suspect in string of incidents in southeast valley identified

A suspect arrested in connection with a Tuesday crime spree that included car theft, attempted robbery at a pharmacy and a high-speed police chase was identified Wednesday in a Las Vegas police report as 60-year-old Frank Goldstein.

According to the report, Goldstein faces several charges including burglary while in possession of a firearm, robbery with use of a deadly weapon, grand larceny auto and evading police.

Goldstein was being held in the Clark County Detention Center on Wednesday evening.

The police report alleges that Goldstein stole a 1999 GMC Yukon at gunpoint from a man who was at a drive-through ATM at Boulder Highway and Harmon Avenue about 1:15 p.m. About 17 minutes later, the report said Goldstein went to Victory Pharmacy at the 4100 block of South Eastern Avenue. Goldstein, wearing a fisherman's hat and a towel over his head, walked up to the pharmacy counter and presented a note to a pharmacist asking for oxycodone, morphine, Xanax and Demerol.

The pharmacist saw that Goldstein was armed. The pharmacist, who also was armed, struggled with Goldstein as the suspect attempted to leave the store.

Police said both the pharmacist and Goldstein pointed their weapons at each other. The pharmacist's weapon fired and struck Goldstein in the buttocks, the report said.

After the shooting, Goldstein fled in the stolen sport utility vehicle. Police began pursuing him on Flamingo Road. The report said Goldstein ignored all traffic-control devices and got on the highway where his speed exceeded 95 mph.

Goldstein eventually crashed the stolen vehicle near a shopping plaza at Lake Mead Parkway and Basic Road in Henderson and was arrested.
