Telemarketers claiming to be with DMV prompt warning

State officials are warning Nevadans about insurance telemarketers pretending to be DMV employees.

Officials said the callers sometimes say DMV records show the motorist is overpaying on insurance. Other times, they identify themselves as DMV employees and ask for information about the motorist's vehicles before offering discounted insurance.

The pitch has been circulating in Northern Nevada. Officials say callers will often leave a callback number with a 775 area code.
